1989 VW LT 4X4 Super rare
READY TO HIT THE ROAD
Engine swap for an new ACL 20k km ago
Odometer: 212k
Known as “the beastie”. We imported it in 2021 from the UK.
Swiss papers with 6 registered seats!
It was super complicated to make it road legal in Switzerland. Regulations are super high… so we had to do a lot of work:
- a big global mechanical check / fix at a 4×4 specialized workshop
- Changing the full back axle for a new one (manfred)
- The full underbody and chassis restauration (clean / rust / treatment)
- Changing the rims and tires
We love that van a lot.. You smile every time you look at it.
Perfect baléance between a van and a truck.
The plan was to keep it long term. That’s why we invested so much love and money in it.
Ideal with 2-3 kids. But our family is getting bigger. Us 7 won’t fit in here anymore!

The van drives super good. Engine and suspensions / tires are super smooth.
I stored it inside a heated warehouse during the winter.
WORK TO DO:
In theory; nothing to do for years mechanically or to be « road legal » .. If its road legal in Switzerland I presume that it will be anywhere else. Even the massive wheels are in the swiss paperwork and you could pass the certification with it.
Only work to do is cosmetic. The body has many little rust points (the usual VW van rust points and the lower body parts) and the paint is peeling on one side and on the roof. It will need some work at some point, but nothing structural yet.
