Offroad-Camper, Expeditionsmobil, (Basis: Ford Ranger XLS 2,2 TDCI Doppelkabine)

Ich biete keinen riesigen Lastwagen mit allem erdenklichen Schnickschnack und Heckgarage an, da so ein Fahrzeug in Indonesien nicht wirklich nutzbar wäre. Ich habe das Fahrzeug hier in Indonesien selbst aufgebaut und auch gut 4 Jahre als Alltagsfahrzeug verwendet. Anfangs hatte ich überlegt mir einen Unimog umzubauen, habe davon aber wegen der Größe wieder Abstand genommen und mich für den Ranger-Pickup (Doppelkabine) entschieden. 

Der Camper ist wendig und klein genug um die meisten Orte erreichen und sich auch mal durch einen Motorradpfad zwängen zu können. Andererseits hat er genug Platz und Stauraum um bequem zu zweit unterwegs zu sein. Ich habe das Fahrzeug gut 4 Jahre lang, täglich auf dem Weg zur Arbeit, und im Urlaub und an Wochenenden auf Java und Sumatra verwendet.

Die Schlafkabine habe ich als große Schublade konzipiert. Gelebt, daß heißt: gekocht und gegessen wird draußen. Eine Toilette ist ebenfalls nicht verbaut. Die Kabine kann zum Schlafen auf etwa 240 cm (Innenlänge) von Hand ausgezogen werden, eingeschoben paßt sie exakt auf die Ladefläche und gilt somit als Ladung und nicht als genehmigungspflichtiger Aufbau. Die Befestigung erfolgt via Ketten und Schäkel an den Zurrpunkten der Pritsche und kann mit Kettenspannern verändert werden. Außerdem ist sie abnehmbar, so dass die Ladefläche wieder zur Verfügung steht, falls dies gewollt ist. 

Im Aufbau gibt’s eine große Dachluke aus Plexiglas, die zur besseren Belüftung geöffnet werden kann. Außerdem ist eine LED-Beleuchtung verbaut, die wie die 3 Lüfter (keine Klimanalage) von einer Zweitbatterie (Laden erfolgt beim Fahren via Trennrelais oder per Landstrom) gespeist wird. Prinzipiell ist eine zusätzliche Montage von Solarpanelen möglich.

Die seitlichen Staukästen enthalten die Technik und genügend Platz für Campingstühle, Tarp, Zeltgestänge, Werkzeug, Kocher, Schläuche, Wasserpumpen zur Befüllung der Wassertanks auf dem Dachträger… Unter dem Bett gibt es weiteren Stauraum.

Die Fahrzeughöhe bleibt mit 208 cm gerade unter den 210 cm, die hier bestimmte Straßenabschnitte, Parkplätze und einige Autobahnauffahrten für höhere Fahrzeuge sperren.

I’m not offering a huge truck with all the bells and whistles and a rear garage, as such a vehicle wouldn’t really be usable in Indonesia. I built the vehicle myself here in Indonesia and used it as my daily driver for a good four years. Initially, I considered converting a Unimog, but decided against it because of its size and opted for the Ranger pickup (double cab).

The camper is maneuverable and small enough to reach most places and even squeeze through a motorcycle trail. On the other hand, it has enough space and storage for two people to travel comfortably. I used the vehicle for a good four years, daily on my way to work, and on vacation and weekends in Java and Sumatra.

I designed the sleeping cabin as a large drawer. Cooking and eating are done outside. There’s also no toilet installed. The cabin can be manually extended to approximately 240 cm (interior length) for sleeping. When retracted, it fits exactly onto the loading area and is therefore considered cargo and not a modification that would require an approval. It is secured via chains and shackles to the lashing points of the car and can be adjusted using chain tensioners. It is also removable, allowing the loading area to be used again if desired.

The body features a large Plexiglas roof hatch that can be opened for better ventilation. LED lighting is also installed, which, like the three fans (no air conditioning), is powered by a second battery (charging while driving via an isolation relay or shore power). In principle, additional solar panels can be installed.

The side storage compartments contain the technical equipment and enough space for camping chairs, a tarp, tent poles, tools, a stove, hoses, and water pumps for filling the water tanks on the roof rack.

The vehicle height of 208 cm remains just below the 210 cm limit that closes certain road sections, parking lots, and some motorway entrances to taller vehicles.

Camper cabin (no rooftent!): Drawer cabin with storing boxes on both sides to provide enough space for camping gear like barbecue, chairs, tools… Big roof window to watch the stars and enjoy the cool night breeze while sleeping. Complete electric system with preparation for solar cells. Second Battery provides electricity for light and extra silent fans inside the cabin. The battery can be charged while driving or via 250V AC to 12V DC-converter from every normal plug. Automatic battery separator to prevent accidentally discharging of the maim battery of the car. Several USB and 12V plugs in the cabin. Voltage- and Capacity-Indicators to observe the charging status. Fire extinguisher, Water tanks 45l and water pump for outdoor shower.

Bed size 120 cm x 230 cm.

Consequent light weight construction (total weight about 300-350kg) for easy mounting and unmounting of the cabin. Mounting-/unmounting time on the car about 15 minutes.
